Universal Magnetic

Universal Magnetic
This might be a stupid question, but why don’t they teach certain things in GCSE/O level Physics?

I noticed that unlike A level Physics, they don’t have, in the O level/GCSE syllabi, quantitative concepts like universal gravitation, angular velocity/acceleration, first and second laws of thermodynamics, capacitance & inductance, magnetic flux & magnetic flux density and Planck’s equation.

Why is that? Are the principles in their mathematical form generally too difficult for students at that level or is it something else?
I know that they teach the concept of universal gravitation, but from what I’ve seen, they don’t give you the equation F = G(m1m2/r^2). I’m just curious (note: I said curious; I’m not saying they should change anything) as to why some of these things aren’t in the GCSE curriculum.

I’m aware of how physics can confound students.

A-Level is like the American AP.

Those topics are not in the introductory level because well, you won’t understand the concepts. For Thermodynamics in Physics, you have to intrepet graphs at a proficient level, understand all the “negative” and “positive” meaning of concepts. Also in Thermodynamics, you have to gone under some work in the Energy section before you start on it.

For Universal gravitation, you do learn a bit in the introductory level so I don’t know what you mean. For angular velocity, they do teach you about that. I studied in a Canadian High school (former UK School – Pre-IB) and we do a lot of work on Mechanics in the first year and second year. When you get to the AP, it becomes incredibly easy for us. Magnetic flux and electricity aren’t taught in second year because it requires the concept from Newton’s Laws for best understanding.

There is also Calculus in AP Physics C in America, but I don’t recall ever A – Level Physics has Calculus in their Physics curriculum.

So to answer your question, it is a matter of concept and mathematics.
