Will electrical tape come off/leave any residue in this application?

I have LED strip lights on my car and I want to turn the area between each LED black. I was going to use electrical tape to tape around the strip. I wanted to make sure (before I do it) that the electrical tape isnt going to come off with the weather, or cause any black dripping onto my car, or have any negative effects.

Hobby paint also known as model paint its cheap and fairly ez to find i can get in in small bottles or spay form in assuming u are talking about the LED housing if its the wires use shrink tubing and a good outdoor clear silicon to seal the ends
