Staples Convertible Top Problem?

I have a 04 Mustang GT Convertible that I bought used last fall, and soon I realized that the staples the rear window had come loose on one side and out of the tack strip. A month or so ago I took the time to get these commodities, and to other new, but now it seems that they also have loosened and are no longer connected to the tack strip. Does anyone know what can happen? Is there much tension this top? Is that adjustable? Are there specific staple foods should I use? I used the standard Staple Gun range … I'm not sure exactly what size. I want to make this set for the summer and I'd rather not pay a lot to do.

Could you use screws with lock nuts 4 mm.
