in runescape i have a steel pickaxe and i wanna mine clay to make money.?

when i try to mine clay it says you dont have a pickaxe wich you have a mining level to mine clay. i have the pickaxe!!!!!!
and my mining is 5 and it doesnt matter it can be 1 and you can mine clay! please help me.
i want a adamant berserker sheild and i need to collect 24k to get it.

I have 65 mining, so, could the pickaxe be broken, that would be a cause. You need lvl 1 mining for clay but i think 6 to use a steel pickaxe. You could weild it at 5 attack but you can’t actually use it to mine.

Prospect the rock, make sure its clay
Check your pickaxe is it broken
Check if your mining level is high enough to use a steel pickaxe (You need lvl 6 not lvl 5!!!!!)
P.S clay doesn’t make that much money, bones, rune essence and pure essence make quite a bit.
