Best space-saving ideas for smaller spaces?

I thought it would be great for people with small spaces to get ideas on how to maximize it. Please share your best space-savers.

Here is one: If you have some books and are looking for a place to put them without a regular bookshelf that takes up floor space or even regular wall shelves that are larger, try a few of these:

1 Closet organizers. A well-organized closet will hold as much as 2 or 3 unorganized closets. Ikea has some nice and inexpensive closet organizers as well as major department stores and Amazon.com.

Another thing I do to maximize space is buy furniture with built-in storage. Coffee tables, end tables and ottomans can all be multifunctional.

Utilize under the bed space. Inexpensive plastic drawers fit nicely and hold a lot. There are specialty products made for storage under the bed but I like those plastic drawers.

Use the paper shredder at least once a month to get rid of paper clutter and to protect your identity.

I have a lot of books so I had book shelves built on the upper part of the walls in my guest room. This was a very inexpensive solution. A few pieces of wood, some brackets and a small labor cost for the handyman. It’s often admired and utilized by visitors.

My favorite space saving addition to my home is my kitchen island. It holds a lot. I do almost all my prep work there and it’s easy to clean.

I save Folger’s coffee cans and spray paint them to cover the advertising. The cans are red so it only takes a little bit of red spray paint to make some really nice multi-purpose containers. I use them for food storage, screws, nails, clothespins and lots more.
