Mr Painting Tips Home Repair: Preparation is imperative
You're thinking of applying a new coat of paint to one or more rooms from home. Maybe you want to clear things up, or simply change the color or a new look. How hard can it be to slap a coat of paint on the wall? The answer, is not difficult at all, but is there more than a quality paint job that only the application of paint. Proper preparation is the key to a quality finish with results that look like they hired a professional to do the job.
Start by gathering the tools and supplies you need in advance. Clear the room of all small furniture and cover the biggest, most difficult to move the items. The paint drips, the last thing you want is having to replace their sofa or other furniture damaged by dripping paint. Paint can splash too, considering the danger zone at least 6 feet horizontally from the area of your painting.
Take the opportunity to soften the walls. Remove any unnecessary protuberance, such as nails or drop of old paint. Seal areas around the gates of adjustment, and the motherboard. Fill small holes with joint compound, spackle or wood pulp. Sand the flat wall and remove bumps and outgoing.
Remove all the hardware you do not want to paint like doorknobs, cabinet handles, electrical outlet covers, etc. use painters blue tape to cover something you do not want to paint.
Clean and remove any dust that may be in the room, does not want to get into your painting. Dust can build paintings bumpy and unpleasant. If mildew is present, you can remove it with a mixture of bleach and water (50% each). Be sure to rinse with plain water. Some molds can be hazardous to your health, be sure to protect your own by using a mask or filter. Some primers and paints are resistant to mold and mildew, and if the area he is painting has a lot of damage I recommend using this type of product.
All surfaces to be painted must be properly prepared. The walls must be completely clean and free from specks of dust, cobwebs, smoke residue and then allowed to dry completely. You should be able to clean the wall with a sponge without taking anything out. If existing paint is chipping, you will need to be lifted with either a knife or wire brush. If you have greasy walls, be prevented the application of paint. Use a detergent to remove any residue.
Read the label before you start, so you know how long a coat of paint will be dry and the amount of area of a gallon covers. The paint drips can cover the label once you start painting. In this way, you'll know the amount of paint to buy and how long it will take work, so you can schedule your time appropriately.
Apply adhesive to the edges of areas not be painted (cabinets, windows, wood, floor, ceiling, etc..) recommend blue painters tape to prevent surface damage when removing the tape. Use no more than strips 2 feet of tape for precise positioning. Place the tape down good and straight. A small error stand, resulting in a crooked line of paint. Smooths air bubbles that could allow the paint to seep under the tape. Even experienced painters will take the time to areas where the mask does not want to paint. Voucher worth your time to mask the area instead of wasting time cleaning up the errors later. Some areas are easily damaged if you have to clean paint stains of them.
Cover your work area with a tarp. Walk carefully on the mat to avoid tracking paint dripping into other areas. Keep your area A fully covered, as it will be difficult if not impossible to clean drips and splashes. Avoid painting up in other rooms. Wipe your feet before leave the room you are painting or use additional cloths fall in other rooms. You are now ready to paint.
Preparation is very important. Although it often takes more time to prepare than it does to apply the paint, preparation is an important part of the job. How would you feel if the stains were prior to bleed through his freshly painted room a day later? It would be a shame if your new carpet, coffee table or furniture were covered with paint stains drip and spray paint. How embarrassing would be if damage to the finish on your cabinets plate by scraping smears paint could have been avoided with Masking Tape. The time needed to properly prepare the room and the surface to be painted is much less than the years of disappointment every time your eye is drawn to the defects caused by cutting corners.
