Ketones? Chemists out there, help! Appreciated. ^-^?
So I’m an A level Chemistry student and I’m stuck.
Absolute despise the Methods of Analysis and Detection book, so no surprises there.
Basically, I’m given the graphs of; mass spectrometry, i.r (infrared) and n.m.r (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectrum and am meant to work out the compound given from those.
Thankfully, I’m not too hopeless so have figured out it’s a ketone compound with molecular mass of 86.
Also I’ve drawn a little table with the following information:
Chemical Shift
0.7 – 1.6
3.3 – 4.3
Number of Protons
6
4
Splitting pattern
triplet
quartet
So basically, it has 10 hydrogens and – O – CH3 OR -O-CH2-R somewhere in the compound.
Any ideas? Highly appreciated!
yes the other answers seem to be right
