Project Management for Dummies

So what is project management?

Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques for a wide range of activities to meet particular project requirements. A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to achieve a particular objective.

The projectum Latin word meaning "to throw something forward." Project Management is to make things happen and moving and has existed for thousands of years. For example, the Great Pyramid of Giza 2550 a. C., the Great Wall of China 221 BC C. – 206 a. C. the Colosseum 80 AD Roman all project management techniques used.

Project management is both a way of thinking because it is an approach that can be applied any big or small initiative must deliver within a certain period of time and cost to meet specific objectives.

Recognized as one essential capacity for organizations to maximize value and reduce costs, project management has developed considerably in the last 20 years. The Basic Principles

There are a number of important principles that determine success in any project. These are simple and well-known principles, yet are difficult to implement and are very often ignored in practice.

1. Particular business needs

Successful projects are based businesses. This represents the "why" of the project, and is important because it provides the basis for all decisions.

2. Defined Benefits

The projects are on the translation of business needs in business profit. In addition to business needs, benefits the "baseline" should also be well defined in terms of origin, time and quantity.

3. Explicit plans

Planning effective, allows people to work together in a coordinated manner to achieve the objectives of the project. Effective planning depends on being at the right level of detail and are presented in an appropriate manner.

Project work involves people from different parts of the organization, often with competing priorities and different perspectives, which can make the team work more difficult. The teams must therefore be actively developed by the Project Manager.

10. Strong leadership

Successful projects are usually led by an individual who is committed to the objectives of the project, and has a completely clear vision of where the project is going and how they will arrive. The leadership qualities of the Project Manager are as important as their ability technical management.

Benefits of Project Management

For the purposes of project management principles it takes time and effort, and technical disciplines. The results are there for the taking if you are willing to make the effort.

The application of an approach Project management is not easy. At the beginning of a project management approach to projects do not necessarily show immediate results. But always worth the investment grief in the long term.

Project management adds value in a number of ways, some of which are detailed below:
