Plastic Super Cup

Plastic Super Cup
Is my crowntail betta just too aggressive to breed?

I just got a pretty mustard gas CT female to breed with my mustard gas CT male. Problem is, my male is (and has always been) very excitable when it comes to other bettas. When I put him next to the female, he flared his gills and fins and raced around his tank threateningly.
Then when he seemed to calm down a little, I floated the female in a Clear Plastic cup in his tank. Now he’s looking super angry and he keeps charging at her cup and hitting his nose on it.
Will he stop after a while or is this guy a lost cause?
I just pulled her cup out and put her in her own tank cause she had those horizontal stress stripes.
Poor thing. Anyway, any advice?

As sad as it sounds, if you are serious about trying to breed this guy you may want to give him a few practice/throw-away females first. A 10+ gallon that’s planted thickly and with a few females thrown in (gradually introduced, of course) will get him used to the idea or having females around. They may be a little scuffed up at first, with broken sight lines, several fish to spread out the aggression and hiding places for the females he will almost certainly get used to it.
