The best method for reconnecting the metal knob on the stereo receiver?

I have a stereo receiver that has AM / FM control broken. There is a trunk half of metal on the stereo and half in the center of the knob now. How can I get stuck or what is the best method to re-connect these? There decent strength between the two when you turn the knob. Thanks

JB Weld is an epoxy part 2 is available at Home Depot. Since the "open time" is a little long, you have to record the knob to hold it in place while the epoxy dries.
