What happens when you copy a file?

Does it basically copy a file? If so, where can I find the copied file?

The original file is stored on the hard drive. When you copy it, it copies the 1′s and 0′s that make up the file in to the ram. Then when you paste the file somewhere else, it writes the 1′s and 0′s on the hard drive so you have two of the same files on the hard drive but in different locations..
