Bin Mesh
Bin Mesh
Bin cages vs Aquariums vs Cages?
so im getting a hamster, and im trying to figure out what would be the best option for keeping it in.
i know alot of the barred cages are just crap like the critter trail ones, so im ruling that out unless i find a good one that doesnt have all those like wheels at the top that would be insane to clean.
then i thhought of an aqarium would be good cause its easy to clean and much bigger, and i could just replace the top with mesh or something
but then i heard about bin cages? i thought that was a good idea, you can cut through the plastic to make lots of holes and cut out the top of the lid and replace it with mesh, and then it wouldnt be expensive at all! what would you do? what have you found that has worked? thanks
I would NEVER use an aquarium ever again. I used one for a while, and it was large, clunky, hard to clean, etc. The ammonia built up really fast and it stunk. I hated bar cages, they were so…. IMPOSSIBLE to clean out right. Plus, they were really small.
I LOVE bin cages. They’re easy to clean, large, and easy to attach to other cages (put a hole in ones you wanna connect, and connect with a tube). Plus, by adding the holes at varying levels, I knew exactly how much ventilation she was getting (a huge issue with aquariums)
Edit: I NEVER had a problem with smell. I would put a layer of paper towels on the bottom, then the aspen bedding. When I cleaned it, I used a vinegar solution (half vinegar, half water), and it took any smell right away.

See that hill over the edge? That is our guide. We want to reduce the side the shape of the Andes. Keep the lid attached to the tray while doing this. It gives some stability.
1 – Take 1 / 2 "drill bit and drill a hole about 2 "In the area to be cut.
2 – Take the saw template and insert the blade into the hole you just made and start cutting. I can use the guide in the mountains a) follow the shape of the crest, b) is maintained at a safe distance within the ridge to keep the lid usable and robust.
3 – Continue all the way around until with an opening half of the lid.
4 – Make 2 holes with a 'brace' in the center for large containers. [K]
Let's add The Wire Mesh
1 – Take the wire mesh and put it on upside down, cut lid.
2 – With the score marks the size and shape inside the opening cover, includes all obstacles "to be" tweaked "to fit perfectly wire without any gaps.
3 – Take cutting scissors (2) and cut the top shape you just drew on the wire. Want to fit well with the mesh and cover are not so sharp edges out. [D]
4 – With the lid still upside down, place the mesh over the top and the position of the mesh in place over the opening. Take your 3 / 16 "drill bit and drill a hole at a point one of the short sides of the lid.
5 – Take a screw, two washers and a nut and fix the mesh through this hole.
6 – Do the same on the opposite side of the lid.
7 – Now, the way it works in the opposite side. This guarantees a perfect fit! The use of small wire pin (# 9) to cut cord away from obstacle "to the left of the original form of the lid.
