How to be successful in the Fashion carer Path.?

When I get older I would like to become a fashion designer. I plan to study “Fashion Design” and “Advertising and Marketing Communications” in College. I have already started practicing and I’ve been told by my peers that Its better than anything they’ve seen. So I know I have potential.
So I know may pretty early to be thinking about this (i’m in 9th grade), but I want to be ready:
During/ After college I want to be an Apparel Business Owner. Maybe sell teen clothes, maybe womens evening wear, etc. I would like to design the clothes and possibly sell for others. I would like it to maybe be like Alloy, in which I sell online and distribute catalogs or maybe be be like Forever 21, in which I have a design and sell in my store and possibly have a franchise. I was just wondering what I could do during/after college to get started. Also, should I reselect my major choices (“Fashion Design” and “Advertising and Marketing Communications”)?

Well I suggest after you graduate get a job with another apparel company as a designer or asst designer first. Then you can learn the business & have a better understanding about starting your own company. & just remember this is a very unstable biz. Where do you live? You should see what company’s are in your area. I work for Jones Apparel group.
